We open with James Kirk as a young boy where he first meets his childhood friend Gary Mitchell. James’ father, George Kirk, a legendary Starfleet hero who retired early to teach college, is called back to action because a childhood friend of his, now the Chancellor of the Klingon Empire, has made an unprecedented overture for peace. The two meet at a peace summit but the shuttle they ride on together explodes, killing both. Each side blames the other and all-out war erupts.
Now, fifteen years later, James Tiberius Kirk is thrust into the role of acting captain of the Federation starship Farragut following a tragedy that kills over two-hundred of the crew and puts Captain Garrovick under long-term care at Starfleet Medical.
After surviving a run-in with a Klingon warship, Kirk receives strangely cryptic orders from Captain Garrovick to return to Earth immediately, and to let his first officer, Gary Mitchell, continue on with Farragut to carry out an equally cryptic mission on a remote planet deep in disputed space.
When Kirk arrives at Earth, he barely escapes an attack by an assassin with help from an old family friend, only to have it revealed to him that there is a dark conspiracy between nefarious shadowy and nameless figures within both the Federation and the Klingon Empire, the roots of which run back to the failed peace summit.
In the midst of all of this, the son of Kalor Arkanon seeks vengeance on Kirk and his family for his father’s murder...STAR_TREK_Soldiers_of_Pawns.html
